Help - internet keeps going off

All day today my internet service has kept disappearing for long periods before coming back. Sometimes the internet light on my Netgear router just goes off but at other times it turns red. I'm with Virgin media (yes I know they are cr*p). I'd like to know where the fault lies ie Virgin, router or something else.
Any ideas or advice appreciated.

sounds like the ASDL signal down your line has been patchy...could be allsorts of reasons for that, like: vm are having tech problems their end, there's an issue in your phone exchange, there's an issue with your line, etc., etc., I suspect the most probable cause is work in your phone exchange, which neither you nor vm are to blame for. Keep a log of on/off times, call vm, and see what they're up to, if anything....they may give you a couple of weeks for free if your disruption to service has been bad...

I had the same problem yesterday and the day before.I'm with Virgin too.
