Package holiday advice needed

Hi,

I am looking to take my family on holiday abroad for the first time next summer (after July 1st due to exams).

I am looking for some advice on destinations that are good value for money with plenty of things to do for a 5,10 & a 16 year old & 2 adults.

I have heard that Menorca is good for families but I did a package finder on the Thomson website and the cheapest I could get for around that date was £2500 for 7 days self catering :rotfl: , I was looking at spending more like £1000 total..is this realistic?

Can anyone recommend where I might find some better prices flying from either Bournemouth or Gatwick?

Cheers,
Steve

  • Have you tried olympic holidays, to somewhere like Crete or Corfu? They always seem to be quite cheap.

july will be expensve no matter what company you go with as its the start of the holiday season
  • Hi

I would also second the greek islands but think you might have to do a bit of searching to find something for £1000 for 5 people in July.

If you are happy self catering then maybe look at renting an apartment, have a look at owners direct, they have accomodation in many of the main resorts. May also be worth looking at Menorca or southern Spain especially if you can get cheap flights with easy jet to say Malaga.

Good Luck in finding a holiday.

I would suggest/recommend Turkey. Wherever you choose research the accomodation and resort (before you book) with some site like trip advisor or holidays uncovered and many others but remember that the opinions are of those people. Some people want a home from home, well if I want that I stay at home but every person has a valid opinion. One word of warning though, Turkey or Greece including the islands will be very very hot at that time of year, you will need some seriously strong good sun creams.
Mainland Spain can be great too, depends what you are looking for.
I have been very fortunate to have holidayed twice a year for a while now so have seen a lot of the short and medium haul destinations.
I can give my opinion (for what it is worth) if you find something. I will look around tomorrow.
Post dates that you are limited to and confirm which airports you could use, East Midlands sometimes comes out cheaper than many.
Hope to be able to help point you in the right direction.
