inventions - what next

I have invented a couple of things - what next? One of them I can make a mock up myself, but the other should I take the idea to a big company, after I have got it patented of course, or try to do it all by myself. Ideas, hints, experiences please;)

Try and get hold of a booklet by the Open University called "Build a Better Mousetrap" it will help test your idea against commercial principles and make sure you have thought it through.
It is harder to sell what you make than to make what will sell!!
