in Credit cards
This may be a stupid question, but I have received a new Barclaycard Chip & PIN card on Wednesday and the letter says the PIN number will follow shortly - does anyone know how long this takes as I really would like to begin using the card.
Am I too impatient as its now only Friday, or should I be concerned that the PIN has gone astray?
Many thanks.
John.

Normally about 5 days. I have received a new credit card this week, and don't have a pin. But still have used the card saying when handing the card that it is a new card and I don't have a pin. Not been a problem, just signed as per 'the old days'.
Hope this helpsDon't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

Thanks for that - I just assumed that you would have to use the pin to pay if the card was chip & PIN.
Shall I give it until about tuesday then by which point I should have received a PIN? If I havn't received it by tuesday after the posties been I'll give them a call. I guess the main thing is that as I have the card, the PIN is useless to someone else without the card.

The banks normally post them out within about 5 days of each other.
This significantly reduces the risk that a bent postie or sorting office worker or neighbour in a communal property intercepts the card and the pin and does a runner.
R.Smile, it makes people wonder what you have been up to.

MBNA send out their pins before the cards, this seems more sensible.
I got a new card too, but no pin, on activating I asked when the pin would be arriving, they hadn't sent it, but said it could be used on a sign for basis.ac's lovechild0 -
I'd allow up to a full week for it to arrive after the card.
When I last had a Barclaycard, back when they did that 0% for 12 months on purchases which a lot of people went for, they sent both the card and PIN so they arrived together. Maybe one got delayed in the system and ended up meeting the other by coincidence but it made me laugh.
All in all, any fraudulent use would come out of their profits so you should never worry about it.0 -

When you say you had a new card too - A barclaycard or MBNA card? Were they going to send you out a PIN or had this been overlooked? In terms of activating the card, I don't need to phone up or anything, it just gets activated the first time that you use the card.
Thanks for all of your replies.0 -
Well...Im now even more confused - but if I phone CS will this confuse matters even more?
Basically, the old card which became damaged was a Chip & Signature - which, because I asked for a replacement has been replaced with a Chip & Pin (last wednesday). I still havn't received a PIN number for this card!
Now, I have just been reading my online statement which was produced yesterday and in the account info bit it tells me that a new chip & pin card is on its way to me and should be with me within 14 days of the date of the statement. Presumably this message appears as it is now time for my old Chip & Signature card to be upgraded as part of the national roll-out of Chip & PIN, but does it mean that I have another Barclaycard on its way?
Any advice or ideas? What should I do?
Thanks.

Is that ur PIN or the card no? I'm guessing that my PIN should probably be the same. How long did ur PIN reminder take?
Thanks.0
