Atlantic G&E Bill/Tarrif Total Confusion

Options
I am totally baffled by the bill/tarrif situation with my supplier.

Currently my Electricitiy bill is Domestic Standard No Standing Charge On-Line. My Gas tarrif is Domestic Standard.

I have called Atlantic a couple of times, firstly to request my electricity be moved off no standing charge - I never requested this in the first place, and secondly to confirm what discounts I should be recieving.

I would guess that my bills (online only) would indicate discounts, and that both tarrifs are online only, but they don't and they don't match. I have tried to perform some online comparisons but the tarrifs I am on can't be selected as they must be dual fule, but this isn't indicated on the bill.

I have had multople conversations with Atlantic and they indicate I am on dual fule tarrif, and recieve maximum discounts however this isn't indicated anywhere on the actual bill - is it on any of your bills or is this typical wool over eyes teritory?

  • I think the Atlantic "offline" tariffs are 6% lower than the "online" ones for those on dual fuel and direct debit.
The online discounts are given at the end of one years use when one months direct debit payment is refunded. This gives the online customers an 8.5% discount, making it slightly cheaper than offline.
Obviously those people not on dual fuel and/or do not pay by DD will pay the higher prices without discount.
As for the standing charge /nostanding charge. If you use all of the primary units it normally makes no difference which tariff you are on.

Thanks for the info. Should these discounts be indicated on the end of year bill then? Or is it all in the ether?

If you signed up online, or via a switching site, then the discount is given at the end of your first year by means of a refund (to your bank?) of one months direct debit payment. This amounts to a 8.5% discount for DD and dual fuel.
If you signed up by ringing Atlantic then the amount you pay per kwh is reduced by 6%. This means you get the discount on each bill and do not have to wait until the year end.
I found this out when I switched my MiL, and her being non computer minded I rang them up to switch and could not understand why the tariff quoted was lower than that shown on their website. I thought we were on to a winner until they said there would be no end of year rebate.

I did get a rebate at the end of the year so I assume this means I am on the online tarrif. I moved house July 07 and requested the new house be moved and that the accounts be linked but that was done over the phone, and I had to chase them up for the rebate. I am thinking just move supplier and level the field, what do you think?
