US Dollar exchange rates

Where can I find the foreign exchange rates used by Mastercard on a given day? I tried calling Mastercard but their system put me back through to my card issuer. MBNA don't have/won't tell me this information.

Alternatively, if anyone has US Dollar transactions on a Mastercard 1st-4th Sept that show an exchange rate, could you post the rates please :)

Here's my problem. I booked some flights on my credit card via a US site then called next day to ask what the GBP amount was. They gave me a number but the actual amount charged on my statement (apparently on the same day I called) is significantly higher than that - like about 5% higher.

I've tried coming up with various combinations of rate movements based on what I can find online but nothing even comes close. I could do with seeing the actual rates to figure out what's happened.

Rule of thumb: You can't, until your statement is updated online, or you get your paper statement, and you see the rate used.

As a guide, the wholesale exchange rate is the best indicator, but does change hourly.

Use http://www.xe.com/ict/ as the tool. It can do historical dates too.

From reading Matrins atricles and various post here abouts I think the best you can do, and it's only an approximation, is get todays VISA rate from

    http://www.corporate.visa.com/pd/consumer_services/consumer_ex_rates.jsp

add in a 3% loading (a guess) in the box provided or if you know the exact percentage charged by your card issuer enter that. The difference between Mastercard and VISA is going to be very small.

I'd second gulifes comments for historic rates. Use the xe.net midmarket rate for the day, assume the worst and take a 4-5% hit on the rate when converting and whatever figure you end up with should almost certainly be worse than the one that will eventually appear on your CC statement.

Rereading your post I see you asked for confirmation of the amount in sterling (should it not be USD?) if the US merchant quoted you a sterling figure then you may be the victim of Dynamic Currency Conversion.
