Having trouble with configuring wireless router

I have just had broadband installed with virgin and have just followed through the set up disc for the wireless router that came with it which is a Netgear WGR614

I want to put WPA encryption on it but when i type in the user name and password as admin and password which are supposed to be the default they dont let me access the configuration page. Would the virgin set up disc have changed the user name and password or does anybody know what else they could be.

If i rang up the support line for netgear would they be able to tell me what is it is?

Thanks for your help.

  • Is it preset with the wireless security already in it and your user name so it logs on to adsl as soon as you plug it in?

If it is then there is a chance the ISP have changed the default pass code and admin log on name to match your account, perhaps try the support pages of your ISP they might tell you how they set them up.

Other than that it is time to start calling them or hitting the rest button on the router to restore the factory defaults, you will then have to input the log on details for your account. I doubt Netgear will know it will be your ISP who know the details if anyone.

Look underneath the router for the actual username/password then change your wireless encryption as required.

There are no log in details to enter into a cable router, this is done by the modem.
