Help with tiotion fees

I am self employed but need more qualifications to make it work. I have been accepted onto an HND course but cannot get help with tuition fees as I already have an HND (1997). I am not making a profit and can't afford the £1255 but I don't want to give up my business. Has anyone any ideas of other trusts or charities that could help me?

If you don't want to give up your business, you should study part time (HND is a full-time course). See if the Open University offers a few modules that are at the right level and meet your training needs.
  • Good thing about the OU is that if you are on a "low income", then you can apply for funding. I did the equivalent of my first year of a BA (Hons) History for FREE, and the second year is going to cost me £40. Hope this adds to the previous comment
  • Thanks Voyager and Legilgalad. Unfortunately OU don't do the course I need which is Interior Design. I really need hands on help and support at a college. The things is I am not making enough money at present and need the extra qualification to make my business work. The tutor has said I have an eye for design and would do well.

Have you applied for a student loan? As far as i was aware you cant get a grant but you should still be able to apply for a loan with an inflation interest rate.
  • I have applied for a student loan but haven't heard yet. It will depend on how much working tax credits I'll get. It s all a bit catch 22. I start college on Monday and don't know what to do? I'm getting really panicky cos I will lose my house if I don't get more work in and I can't make it work the way it is just now

Give your LEA a ring, on Monday, the rule about not being able to get help with tuition fee is not absolute. There is always exception to the rule such as false-start, etc, and might find one applicable to your case.
