Made to measure curtains

Hi, I'm wondering if someone can help with the following info
We have had three pairs of made to measure curtains arrive today.
Track size 59 inches (150cm). On the times 2.5 principle each curtain should be approximately 74 inches, ours are 79 inches.
My problem is each curtain is made from two pieces (54 inches plus 25 inches) of material joined together (visible join  ). At over two hundred pounds per pair, surly they should have been made from one piece. IE: 90 inches and cut back to required size.
So before I go back to the shop and mention that I'm dissatisfied (never informed of each curtain being made in two parts, though the invoice shows 1.5W X drop) Is this the norm these days.
Thank you.

If the fabric you chose doesn't come in a width wide enough then you have to have a join.
If you think the join is not very good then complain - nicely - you should get some money back..
If you think they are utterly rubbish then complain - firmly - you should get all your money back but have to find new curtains..
Decide what you want before you complain and then be prepared to haggle... Take the curtains with you, hold them up to the light and show them the problem.. A busy Saturday is the best time as shops don't like customers seeing past customers complaining and will do their best to solve the matter quickly and efficiently..0 -
Fabric rolls come in limited sizes on the width and I think standard is 54". I'm not a curtain maker, but I work in the industry.
If a pattern cannot be turned around (so you use the drop on the roll rather than the width) then you will have joins.
Manufacturers don't have to inform you of joins as it's standard practice. The only thing you can query is (as Slimcilla said) is the quality of the join. It would be better to take it to another curtain maker and ask them if they think it's bad workmanship before going to the place you bought it from.0 -
Curtain material is standard 54" wide so each curtain will be one width and a half. This is normal. They should match the pattern as best they can but imperfection can always happen.
I make my own curtains and pattern matching is one of the most frustration things you have to do. It can also lead to a lot of material wastage, unless you utilise and make cushion etc
If the pattern could easily be matched and they haven't attempted to, then you certainly need to take it up with them.
The idea is you hang the join closest to the outside of the curtain rail and place the hooks so it hangs on the inside the curtains fold.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Hi there,
Just to agree with what others have said - complain regarding the quality of the join.
We have 2 huge windows in the lounge each curtain required 3 joins (horizontal stripe on the fabric) You have to have the curtains down to see the joins (and know what you are looking for) Once they are up you cannot tell where they have been joined.
If the fabric is patterned is it possible they have messed up the pattern repeat?
Hope you manage to get it sorted.
fyi I had to get my curtains made up twice  the first place didn't do such a good job - given that I had spent a fortune on the fabric I wanted them to be "right"! My situation was different by the sounds of it I bought the fabric then took it to a seamstress with measurements to make them up - even having to have that done twice was 50% cheaper than the quotes the fabric shop gave me for making them up...0 -

Thank you all for your replies, I have been back to the curtain department armed with your knowledge and they have agreed to rectify the curtains :j0 -
