Another Outlook Express conundrum

I have Outlook Express set up in my wife's and my own user accounts in Vista to download from the same email address, which works fine .... except when my wife sends/receives, OE pauses when accessing this e-mail account and shows that there are x number of email messages even though they have already been downloaded.
By logging into the webmail version of the account, I can see that this number matches. OE does not actually download them again, but is appears as if it is doing some sort of checking to see whether it should. When I send/receive, OE zips through this step, obviously recognising that these have already been downloaded.
I've checked the properties for the email account in both user accounts and they seem to be the same. Is there somewhere else I need to check?

Why not simply have individual e-mail addresses that would be accessed from your individual Vista user accounts?
If you don't want to share one Vista login, why share your e-mail? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
We do have individual email addresses, but this 'common' email address is a hangover from when we had a W98 machine without user accounts and hadn't bothered with setting up individual email accounts.Charlie0

So forward the common e-mail to one of your other individual accounts. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
