bullying at work

evening everyone
ive not wrote on this board but been to have a look a couple of times to see if anyone was in my situation, anyway i have been bullied at work by my manager since Arpil this year and finally got round to writing a 3 page letter of complaint, the different points where she had 'bullied' me and a big paragraph about how it makes me feel.

Some one from HR came to see me last week and i gave her the letter, then they told my boss Friday that there was a complaint in about her. After putting 2 and 2 together she found out it was me, even tho she is generally horrible to all but 1 person in our shop! I was in work with her on Monday and she was the nicest boss ever! Is she crawling or what...lol

So now im at the point where HR are coming to see her tomorrow, not sure if they are coming to see me too, The HR lady mentioned having a meeting with all 3 of us there but not sure when.

all the other staff now know i complained about her, 2 said i had balls...lol and a superviser said it was only a matter of time before some one did this. At first i just wanted some one to tell her to leave me alone but after thinking about it and how bad it has made me feel i want something done about it, just hope this works!

So anyway, i know you probably cant help but i just wanted to get it off my chest and will keep you all updated and let you know what happens late tomorrow afternoon.

wish me luck!

Good luck, hope it goes well. Would you let us know?

Every time I have to go to London, I get ribbed about being 'Oh no, it's that northener' type stuff. it's like hearing the same joke over and over again, it gets me down when they take the mick of my Birmingham accent.

  • Well done you! That took a lot of guts to do, and the world needs more people like you! Congratulations for taking a stand.

Bullies will only bully as long as they get away with the behaviour. The fact that she's already changed in her attitude towards you shows that she has realised you won't be bullied.

I do believe that some people don't always realise that their behaviour is bullying, but when someone tells them their behaviour isn't on, they will change. I had this exact experience in a job and it was really just that the bullying person had been taught to be a !!!!! by her mother and she just didn't realise that she was being a bully.

I hope the meetings goes well and you get a good outcome for everyone.
  • well the HR lady came, read the letter out to my boss while i was on the till then came and got me, me and the woman from HR went thru the letter, she was explaining how it might not be bullying in my boss' eyes and its how i perceave(sp?) it that might be the issue.
So after dinner we had a meeting and i tried to explain to my boss how she made me feel, she just kept kind of trying to say its how she is, she knows she can be abrupt and no one else has said anything cos she is like that with everyone!
She has agreed that if she isnt being nice i can say 'youre doing it again' and she said she will count to 3 and think about what shes doing. we'll see!

So i left the meeting feeling happy that it was all out in the open and optimistic that its done the trick. My boss was nice to me the rest of the day and i cant get used to it lol.

We will be having a review with HR in about 4 weeks to make sure everything is still going smoothly, i really hope its sorted now and maybe it just took something like this to make her realise how upset she was making me feel all the time.

Sandra_nz i agree that some people dont know what they are doing and it takes some one to tell them for them to realise. Hopefully this is the end of the story, thanx for listening/reading!

the fact your boss says she is like that with everyone does not excuse her behaviour though.

I do hope for your sake that she sticks to what she says.

I would be prepared for it not to last very long..we had one of those types at work too.It would be ok for a week then she would revert to type....but in our case management did nothing about it so we all stopped complaining.

But good on you for sticking up for yourself though

nicnacnoo I just want to congratulate you on how well you have handled yourself in this situation. You have obviously been objective enough to see that your boss means no harm, but needs to develop her personal skills. I also like the way that the HR officer has handled it. This is a good result all round and a good example for people on the boards to hear of. :)

Well done for standing up for yourself, and Im plzed that HR came on board, at least the company seem very proactive and clamping down on bullying.

The good thing is as well is that you hace a review with the HR in 4 weeks.

I was bullied in my other job, it ended up with going to employment tribunal, and it was a damm hard long fight.....the people who all said, yes we're back you up, only one person backed me up.
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
