My grandson got an ipod. The only computer he has access to is mine and most of his music is on my PC in mp3 format.
When his ipod arrived (incidentally he loves it) we ran the ipod cd to put the necessary software onto my pc and then just loaded the mp3's onto his ipod. Absolutely no probs whatsoever

  • Yes. So iPods don't actually carry tunes in MP3 format, but they get converted on a PC to MP3 format to be played in Apple's own format.

can you convert your mp3s and mp3s downloaded from elsewhere to ipod format??

(J.M.B- I love ur avatar BTW!)
  • The Ipod will play any MP3's you already have, plus you can load any CD into iTunes and put that on the iPod. Tunes downloaded from iTunes music Store will only play on an iPod.
What you can't (easily) do is play tunes purchased from stores other than iTunes - eg Napster.

The iPod will play quite a few formats - AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Music Store), MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3 and 4), Apple Lossless, WAV, AIFF

Not sure if I understand that.

iPods can stores mp3's, aac, wav etc... There's no conversion involved when transerring the track to the iPod. The track is hashed, put in a "bucket" and added to the iPod's library.

So if you have a collection of mp3's already, you can just put them straight on without any worries.

so you could download from one of these 'never-to-be-named' russian sites for example, and they would play on your ipod or not? Would it involve a lot of faffing around??
