Shared Vista printer causes XP to crash

Hi all,

So I just installed Vista Ultimate (64bit) on my main machine which has two printers connected to it; a Samsung ML-2010R laser and Epson DX7450 inkjet. Both printers are shared and connected to another desktop and two laptops (all on XP 32bit).

I have added the shared printers to all machines on the network and am able to print fine to the inkjet over the network. However, when I print to the laserjet I am asked if I would like to send an error report to Microsoft and then the program exits (works perfect locally).

I have the lastest drivers and have tried re-installing but am now pretty confused. Has anyone had a similar issue or offer up any suggestions?

Many thanks!

just a thought, is the inkjet the default printer ?? what happens if you make the laser the default, is the situation reversed, i.e. prints fine on laser and not on inkjet ?? Might be worth checking this out....

    Oh well, sorted now.

If anyone has the same issue you need to install the Vista version of the print drivers for both architectures (x32, x64) in the additional drivers menu. Threw me that the Epson didn't require this!

A way around this is to tick the box in the sharing properties for the printer which says "render print jobs on client computers". Only downside to this is that when you add the printer to a client computer, you'll have to manually install the drivers instead of the computer grabbing them over the network.
