I have a fairly old(in todays standards) evesham computer that i bought off ebay a couple of years ago and all has been fine until recently.. Over last few weeks things acting a bit odd, had a blue screen come up saying need to shut down because of a fault followed by a load of writing (sorry can't remember what it said) and at the bottom it said it was going to dump the hard drive , then a counter counting up in seconds. I switched it off and restarted and sll seemed ok but started freezing alot. Same screen came up again yesterday. Tried to scan with antivir twice, but froze when got to 56% then 80%. Running XP. Any ideas?Getting mad with it now. Thanks.

Could be running out of space. If you open my computer and right click on C: and choose properties, it will tell you how much space is available. Could be lower than you think. I had this on a 40Gb HDD pc I looked at a few days ago, and there was 12.88 Mb free. This caused a BSOD message as there wasn't enough for the page file quota. Could be why the scans only get so far.
There are all sorts of reasons but looking through and following the Malware/Spyware thread can only help. Also try deleting any unnecessary programs and files. Remember to empty the recycle bin once you do this.0 -
Basic reasons are over heating ie internal cooling fans stopped running, or dirty RAM modules, ie unclip and removed and refit. Dust bunnies in there, blow out with compressed air. Malware or bad drivers will also cause this as would any software or hardware installs. Maybe time for a clean out and reinstall the operating system.0

I have thought about re instaling windows, OH did a system restore and atm seems ok, but will try and follow all instructions. I have a 75 gb had drive with 55gb free so don't think space is the problem

it could be your memory chips are going, upgrade the memory for around £20-30, or try defraging the HD, see if that helps.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
