Investing for children

I have a lump sum (a few k) from a relative for my child aged 4 and I want to lock it away and forget about it until they are 21. Are there any good ways of doing this?

An investment trust (e.g. Alliance Trust) is an option, via a bare trust fund, could give stock market returns for low charges.
Using the child trust fund tax free is another.
Managing £100 a month through the Halifax 10% Regular Saver is another.
The first two options revert to the child at 18, rather than 21 though. Good timing to contribute to university fees!0 -
Thanks for that, but this is really a one off investment and I really want it locked away until he is 21
