cardholder repayment protection-egg

OH has had cardholder repayment protection on his egg card- he had only realised fairly recently that he was paying it.

He emailed them asking for proof that he agreed to it,but they have been evasive on the subjectthough they have now cancelled it. Is this worth persuing?

I don't exactly know- he had this card before we met. He doesn't have credit card debts.I think its been very rarely used in the last 3 years.,but prior to that I am not sure what the amounts were.
In what circumstances is this type of insurance sold?

Could he realistically ask for a copy of the original ageement?

This happened to me with my Egg Card.

They claimed I took the insurance out "over the phone" and since then have failed to produce anything in writing. I am positive I never authorised the payment protection as I always refuse it.

Surely they have to provide something in writing?

Arambol, someone else may come along and tell you this, but after reading your post I just spoke to the fsa.

They said that this sort of thing wasn't regulated before 2005 (his card was probably before 2005),and that before that it is possible that the insurance was included, and to not be included you would have to "opt out" which could be construed as unfair.

He needs to ring egg bank on 0800 7834393 , say he wishes to make an official complaint about the misselling. They have to reply within 8 weeks. If not satisfied you could take it up with the Ombudsman.

Just to add that egg said someone would call me back, and haven't done.
I rang today and registered the complaint on my OH behalf , they have told me this type of complaint is an issue for them at the moment (so clearly we are not the only ones),and that they have a team specifically to deal with it. They are going to write to me/him? within 5 days to acknowledge the complaint has been filed. I also mentioned my OH had not had satisfactory answers to his emails, and wanted that noted.

I have complained on the grounds he wasn't aware he had signed up for it,and he doesn't believe it was necessary for him.
