Hi,
I am on my second year of my 2 year course and i would like to open a natwest student account, but have a couple of question's i am hoping someone could answer for me.
Just to confirm, hnd courses are accepted to open a student account arnt they?
what evidence of being a student will i have to provide, i have a student card that cannot be used for id but my gym used it as prove of being a student wll this do?, is there anything else i can use as i won't get the card until the 29th
if I'm accepted will i be given an arranged overdraft or will i have to arrange one?
i am not getting a student loan, but i am getting the bursary and i am also getting about £260 which i can pay into the bank, will this be enough?
Last question,
next year i am going onto the degree course what will happen to my account, will i have to open another account with them?
Thanks in advance

Last question,
next year i am going onto the degree course what will happen to my account, will i have to open another account with them? I suspect you might not be eligible for the Student account but you can open an account with NatWest and then convert it to a Student account next year.
Thanks in advance
Are you doing the equivalent of A levels? If that is the case then you may be ineligible for the rail card. I suspect that to be the case.0 -
hi thanks for answering the questions.
i dont think i can get the rail cards as i read somewhere that only first years can get it.
this is my course

do you know when you are supposed to recieve the letter from the university as none of my friend or myself have recieved a letter yet, will we get one at the induction week when we register again?
if im not accepted for the student account is there another account with the 0% overdraft.
thanks again0 -
You have got me on this one. I think the answer is no, yet the course seems to indicate that as a second year HND course, it is the equivalent of year 1 at university as you can have the option of joining years 2 and 3 of a BSC(Hons) Computing. I think the answer is NO on the basis of the course. I would check with your University student union. They tend to be pretty clued up as to what bank will accept you for a student account based on the course you are doing. I could not tell from the link whether the course is at level 4 or 5, do you know?0

Normally if the account is not an existing one converted to a student one, it is 7 days from the account being opened to the card being at the branch/home. Once the card is activated then it is another 7 days for the PIN. Online stuff usually is sent through the post directly to you...not sure on timescale.0 -
on the form it says the card/pin will be delivered to my branch, will they phone when it arrives or something.
Also once the card is activated can i use it on the internet or will i need to wait until i recieve the pin.
thanks
ps. sorry about all the questions but just thought
I was offered an overdraft of 1250 but changed to 1100, can i use the card to pay for goods online with the overdraft when i get my card? Is it just like spending your own money apart from its not?0 -
Once the card is activated then yes. My experience tell me that the pin will be sent to the branch(the branch where the card is sent can put a note on your account so that the pin goes to a branch near your uni if it is not the nearest one). They won't phone you.
Overdrafts are interest free, but it is still the banks money that you can spend. Remember that in the future after your studies you will have to pay them back0 -
We had one card to the branch and one to the house. Both the PINs came to the house.
As natweststaffmember advises, the best bet is to check in branch if something hasn't arrived as its probably waiting for you.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. thanks, phoned them up and they said the card will be in the branch on mon or tue.
Can i ring natwest and get them to do a bank transfer to my halifax account(not a student account) before i get the card as i have about £15 to last until i get card and pin. Would they do it for me?
thanks0
