Hello
Wonder if anyone could shed some light please?! Have just switched over from BT to NTL (kept my original phone number) and was hoping to continue to use 1899.com. When I try and make calls dialling 1899 - it just doesn't work. Have I got to inform 1899.com of the changeover of tel providers?
Thanks in advance :

You can only use the 1899 prefix from a BT landline.
From a cable landline, you have to use their 0808 1 708 708 freephone access number.
Also, instead of your calls to UK 01/02 numbers costing 3p connection and 0p/minute, you're now going to be paying 3p connection and ½p/minute.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

Yes, unless you get yourself an Orchid dialler to do it for you.
Why did you move from BT to a cable landline?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Basically the dialler will route calls through particular suppliers depending on type and time of call.....saves you having to remember lots of different prefix nos (eg 1899/18866/18185). Unfortunately you will find that the calls are more expensive for cable tel users...0 -
Dear Folks
I subscribed to 1899 in October and have had free calls to UK Landlines...that is until 14th November where now I am being charge .5p/minute.
Is there another company offering free calls?

Not like a 1899 service. But you can sign up with Onetel they will send you a smartbox. You can either have free E&W to 01/01 numbers for 99p a month,or free weekend calls for nothing. Then just use 1899 at peak rate.0
