Advice please - children's money

hello.
the kids (6 and 8) have been given £4000 between them to invest for when they reach 18.
They have a normal saving account each with about £1500 in each - I have no isa etc just a few pennies in a savings account
Please advise what is the best method of building this amount up for later years
