I have had a mastectomy and cant find these bras in the Asda in Nottingham. Does anyone know how I can find these please?

    Hi Jean,

They are in my local branch and that is much smaller than Nottingham, so hopefully they will stock them again soon. Perhaps they will allow you to order one in? The full product details are at the top of the page.

    Good luck finding one!
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.
  • Thanks for the info

Girlfriend grandmother is in hospital at this moment having treatment for this awful disease, not what anyone wants let alone a 86 year old woman

Again thanks for the info and good to see some money being given back to breast cancer research
  • Asda are brilliant for setting up these bras. I'm a nurse on a plastic surgery ward and we deal with alot of breast reconstruction surgery, mastectomy, and axillary clearance (lymph node removal) and all of those above use those bras, easpecially the ladies who have had a reconstruction.

One breast is normally slightly swollen and hasnt had time to adjust yet, being asymmetrical - so you need a few bra's to get you going find the right one. there are really worth the £6!

If its irritating her under the arm, its not a correctly fitting bra. (Trained bra fitter) Definately should go for a refit, rubbing on scars really isn't pleasant.

    Thanks for your reply Nicolefury.

Can anyone recommend where she should go to be fitted? She went to our local M+S and was hurridley measured round her back but not around her bust and was told to get a certain size. When home, she tried on the bras and they were totally the wrong size.

She pops in BHS all the time to be measured, but there is only 1 fitter and she is never there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated =)

debenhams are good, in my experience M&S are rubbish.

Oh and the best most experienced bra fitters dont often use a tape to measure anyway, or if they do its to conform to certain rules of the store.

I only measure around the band and not the cup. Its very innacurate to measure around the cup, someone younger with perty breasts would stick out more generally than that of a 90 year olds, doesnt mean to say her cup is smaller though. Bad example i know!

I've been buying these for a year or so now. They are great value for money. Just wish they would do something a bit more lacey iyswim.
I didnt have reconstruction and find it disgusting that you are issued with one prosthesis then its down to you when it needs replacing. I do think that the companies who sell these and post surgery bras 'hold us to ransom' and we have no choice but to pay their prices.

BTW Marks & Spencer also do post surgery bras, but don't do bigger sizes.
Hi. I work with breast care nurses who provide prostheses and many patients come back for new prosthesis when there old ones are worn out, eaten by the dog, melted, whatever! They are never charged. OK, they are expected to last a couple of years but i have never known them quibble about a replacement. Give the nurses at your hospital a ring and see if they can help - or get your GP to fight your corner if you have probs.
  • Thanks Vixarooni, I'll take my mum to Debenhams then =) Never thought of there as we don't have one in our town!

  • Are these bras available in Asda Nottingham? I can't find them.
  • My local hospital supplies me with an Amoena prosthesis and they can arrange for pockets to be sewn into any ordinary bra I purchase. There's no charge for anything, not even postage when they send the bras back to me. They also have a range of bras for patients to try on, as well as a wide range of various types and weight of prosthesis. As well as my day-to-day prosthesis, I have one for when I go swimming and a lightweight soft one for wearing at night or for when I'm receiving visitors in my boudoir, as you do! I've also been supplied with a False Nipple Kit - 2 spare nipples and a little bottle of glue, all in a tasteful little box! Everything I've received has been free of charge. After my op I was also offered three free aromatherapy massages!

I was advised by my Appliances Officer that the best bras to wear are Triumph "Doreen", which give excellent support - and they hold Silicone Sid firmly in place! They come in lots of sizes and pretty colours and are often on offer in mail order catalogues. I have quite high scarring after my radical mastectomy ten years ago so they suit me well but they may be a bit on the matronly side for youngsters. Unfortunately us chunky oldies need something firm and fully encompassing to stop us wobbling about when we go over the cobbles with our Zimmers!

I've not tried the Asda bras yet but at £6 a time I must admit I'm tempted! Well done, Asda, for doing something for us lopsided women. There are more of us about than a lot of people realise.

Good luck, Pixiebum. I hope it all goes well.
