New TV wanted.....where to start?

Hi everyone!

Please could someone point me in the direction of a website which can tell me everything i need to know about buying a brand new top spec TV?
I don't know where to start!!

Once I know what I want then I can start some price comparisions! ;)

Many thanks.......
"Buy me, Lady", said the frock, "and I will make you into a BEAUTIFUL & WHOLE & COMPLETE human being".
"Do not be silly", said the Man, "for a frock alone cannot do that".
"True", said the Lady, "I will have the shoes and the bag as well".

    Maybe some info here

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=91

Depends what you want to watch on it for starters

    HD/SD?

Broadcast stuff, or DVDs for example

Size (I am told it does matter?!)
  • Post this question on http://www.avforums.com/. Those guys are crazy about TV's, especially top end models.

Edit: Great minds think alike mymatebob... you beat me to it.
  • Thanks peeps!
Will head onto that tonight for a read!

I like Samsung tv myself I have two one 26" and one 40". If you watch tv/dvd etc a lot I would certainly pay that bit more for a branded model.

Make sure you get a tv with a digital tuner too most tvs do these days and also if yo want to run a game system and dvd etc perhaps make sure it has more than one hdmi socket, some of the cheape ones still coem with only one and a analogue tuner, which looks bad on a lcd

Interesting point. A relative of mine just bought a new TV with integrated DVD player. It has a digital tuner so now she can't watch any broadcast TV on it as she is not in a Freeview area and her switch over is not for another 3 years!
When Freeview goes HD it is unlikely that any cheap inbuilt tuner will be able to display it

Yes that could possibly happen. It depends on where you are for a digital signal. Always worth checking first.

Yoiu do need digital tuner as when the whole country goes digital analogue will be useless anyhow

When freeview does goes HD the inbuilt tuner will work just wont be able to watch hd, you could opt for freesat to get free hd and digital though which would be beter to have a tv with more than one hdmi socket unless you opt for a hdmi switch

Indeed - I didn't mean to suggest that the box would be obsolete - just that you wouldn't be able to see Freeview HD broadcasts

Yes you are right but analogue will be obsolete and digital is the way forward, lcds look awful in analogue

If you cant get freeview freesat may be the way forward or sky/virgin, although I dont think sky digital looks that good on lcd either compared with a good signal from freeview judging by what I seen on a friend tv

I prefer LCD to Plasma, but then I prefer CRT to either and a good analogue signal is still a thing of beauty.

I must admit my relative is pretty cheesed off about having a TV that is only any good for DVDs now. Hopefully it will still be working in 3 years time
