I've got a Ryobi petrol blower/vac, very noisy but good fun. I find the vac pretty good, but I'd use it even it it wasn't, it's a bloke thing, strutting around in my wellies revving the engine.

I'm sorry to disagree with tou lot, but I've been using a black and decker one for the last 6 months to pick up leaves and hedge clippings (which I seem to be trimming every 4 weeks with all this rain!) and I find it saves me hours! As well as getting into all the nooks and crannies, it shreds them so it takes up less space,
    I say go for it!!
I think it just depends on what you dealing with. For hedge cliippings and small leaves, particularly when dry the suction mode is fine. If you are dealing with big tree leaves like poplar, sycamore, oak etc when wet then suction not so good.

Can I ask which model you have please?

It's the Black and Decker mastervac, which is actually not a blower but only a vac!
I picked this up on e-bay for £10 and I'm thrilled to bits with it! (I don't get out much!!!):D
  • I have a Stihl SH85 petrol model,andit's fantastic,a bit pricey,though.It doesn't like big clumps of soaking wet leaves-separate them a bit,and it's ok.It will pick up little bits of twig and then stall,though(easy to clear).As for slates and pebbles,not really had a problem.HTH.

Apparantly if you read the info on these, they are made to only vac up small twigs and leaves and have been designed to leave the small pebbles and stones where they are as they are just too heavy!

I've got a Flymo blower/ vacuum. It is hopeless when in vacuum mode but fine when in blower mode. Even if it sucks up the leaves, it gets really heavy and it is a bind having to empty the bag. It works best when you blow the leaves into a corner and then pick them up with a brush and shovel into a barrow.

Agree 100% but would add it is useless on wet leaves, so best done when leaves are dry, or just damp. and then works best if you can blow 'under' the leaves at a shallow angle. - Have had better results plugging the hose into the exhaust end of a wet and dry vacc.

On hard surfaces stick to a broom and on grass or open ground stick to a rake and a pair of big hands. These blowers do come in to their own though on gravel or bark surfaces.

Had a 20% voucher for Homebase so had a choice of a Flymo for £40 or Powerbase for £28 (on special offer for £35, normally £50). IT has a more powerful motor and just used it now. Spot on picking up the leaves

    BUT

The bag has a hole in it after only one use how poor is that
