H E L P ! ---- Easy I'm Sure.

Hiyah,

Just installed XP pro and my shift/2 buton and my shift / ' buttons are the wrong way round.

In other words to get the ampersand I need to press shift/2.

How do I put this right please?

many thanks

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

Go to control panel, then Regional and Language options, go to the Languages tab, select Details and choose English (UK) as the default keyboard layout.

To Change Keyboard Language Settings Do This.
Click on Start, Control Panel, Date Time and Regional Options,
Add Other Languages, Language Tab, Details.
Now click on, Add, Select (English United Kingdom) Click Ok
If you still see, English United States, Just Click On it Once
then click on remove, now click OK.
Now log off then back on for changes to take effect.

Hi Mr skint. Nice to hear from you,

    tried that.
    Same as before.

I dont get the option to remove the us setting and I am not on the US setting that i know of. It is showing U.K. setting but no pound sign anywhere.

You could also check that the NUM LK key is on, that can make a difference.

    Good luck

    None of the above work.

Someone must know the answer. I thought it'd be an easy fix.

    Obviously not.

try forcing it in the registry, if you haven't already fixed it.
Hit start, select RUN type REGEDIT and hit ok. Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER then expand Keyboard Layout and then select Preload. You should have two strings. A blank default one, and one called "1" with a value, the value for UK should be set to 00000809. If its set to 00000409 that explains the problem (as thats the US setting).
Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.
  • Are you sure you are indeed using a UK Keyboard?
