would anyone risk taking pup for a walk before 2nd vaccine?

NEVER - its not worth the risk - they can catch any disease including PARVO which is lethal and horrible. Surely your dogs health is more important and worth an extra few weeks wait.

thanks - that is the advice I gave my friend too. Just wanted reassurance that i was correct to be as strongly opinionated about it as I was.

Not a good idea. But if it's not too heavy it will enjoy being taken for a 'walk' in its owner's arms.

If it is small enough to carry, it is a good idea to get it used to the sights and sounds of the big, bad world but we never suggest that you put the dog down on the floor. Not worth the risk.

Do take your pup out and about everywhere you can though these first few weeks and if you have friends who have dogs who you know are inoculated - get them come visit or go visit with them. Pups need all the socialisation they can get these early days

And tbh I take my pups out and let them down as soon as the vacs are given, I dont wait a further 7 days as some vets advise. Anyone visiting your house or even yourselves can bring parvo in on your shoes

Yes I would - but not in areas known to be frequented by dogs on a regular basis.

Did you know more dogs are destroyed because of behavioural problems caused by lack of socialisation, than die from the diseases we vaccinate against? And that comes from the website of one of the companies which manufacture vaccines.

The timing of vaccines is important, as it starts when the inherited immunity from the !!!!! is starting to decline - like human babies they inherit immunity from their mothers - I don't see anyone saying you shouldn't take a new born baby out for short trips, so why not take a puppy? Obviously you wouldn't let anyone with a cold breath all over your baby, and you woulnd't let your pup mix with other strange dogs. After all, what do people with an existing dog at home do when they get a new puppy?
