in Credit cards
Hi - first posting, I'm a newbie! (do i get a cheer for that?)
I stayed in a NYC hotel last week and had to give my credit card on checking in, we'd already paid for the room in full on a different card. I signed their standard form about being responsible for charges on my room etc. I assumed if I didn't they wouldn't let me into the room. On checking out they asked if I'd had parking at the hotel - which I hadn't, and then said everything was fine and there were no charges. I didn't sign anything else.
Unfortunately they then charged me $185 for parking, they told me on the phone as it's charged to my room it's tough and I have to pay it. I'm disputing it through my credit card company. It is going to take a couple of months and it seems as though I have very little say or option to appeal in the process.
Does anyone know what my rights are and whether my signing a form at the beginning of my stay entitles them to charge money which I haven't authorised on checking out? Also should I have done things differently? Do I have to hand over my credit card details when I check into a hotel? Should I have got some sort of a form from them saying there were no charges on checking out?

Normally what happens when you check into a hotel is that they take your card details and get you to sign a form to check in. On check out they should give you a list of charges and get you to sign a form then to pay what you owe them on your credit card. Did they not do this?0 -
no they didn't give us any form on check out , they just told us there were no charges0
