Making my jeans last longer

Firstly, I had no idea where to put this thread - but this seemed like the best location.

I have a nasty habit of wearing out the inside legs of my jeans, right at the top. I've tried jeans from Next (£30), and they only lasted a fortnight. I now find myself buying jeans from Asda every 3-4 weeks, at the cost of £6. Not ideal, but better than paying £30 every 2 weeks.

Now, of course, I'm wondering if there's any sort of patch I can stick down on the inside of my jeans. I'm not a dab hand with the needle, but if it means saving money then I'll certainly try to accustom myself with one. :p

Looking forward to seeing some replies.

  • I was surprised by how quickly Next jeans wore out too. My mum used to repair my dads jeans by cutting a piece of denim from another old pair of jeans and then gluing it on with Copydex, you could try doing something like that on the inside but presumably the wear comes from where they rub on the outside??
Another thing is how do you wash them? would it make a difference if they were washed on a less intensive wash such as 30C? + make sure they are fully dry and aired before putting them away as denim does have a tendency to rot if it is left damp.
  • I have a similar problem with holes in the inner legs of jeans which is exacerbated by my stupid-shaped bike seat .

I got some iron-on denim patches from my local fabric shop, think they were about £1.70 for 2 bits of 3" x 5" and ironed them on the *inside* of the jeans. You can still see the frayed white cotton but not the actual patch from the outside. It was a 5 minute job, no mess, no fuss :D
They have given a new lease of life to my jeans and at least another year out of them (£15 Tesco so hardly worth it as my OH keeps saying but they fit so lovely and I hate shopping for jeans).
