Memory RAM Upgrade

Hi,
I am planning on doing a memory upgrade. I currently have 256MB of SDRAM DIMM, (does double bank mean 2 128mb modules). I have XP, 1.5GHz Pentium 4 processor and I need PC133 type Ram. My computer can hold a max of 1gb. I was thinking of adding another 512mb, but I am confused about how you need to add the new memory, maybe 1 512mb module, or 2 256mb modules. If I only added 256mb, again would I need 1 or 2 modules?
Thanks
Jonathan

Have you had a look to see how your memory is configured inside your PC.
If both slots are occupied then youv'e got the two 128M modules you assumed you have.
So you can take one out and pop in a 512M module giving you 640 M total.
Have you tried Crucial to find out what you need http://www.crucial.com/uk/That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
PC133 SD RAM does not need to be replaced in pairs. You should be able to add a 512MB DIMM which will give you 768 (approximately) or if your motherboard can handle it then two 512MB. The only problem you may encounter is memory compatibility which really depends on your board.2 heads are better than 1….unless they are on the same body!0

Thanks for your help,
I think that I have 4 slots so I might just buy one 512mb.0 -
You may have 4 slots but it's possible that they aren't identical. Some motherboards can take 2 different types of memory so it's possible you have 2 pairs of slots which you can't mix & match. But the memory selector mentioned earlier should sort that outjonnymeldrum wrote:Thanks for your help,
