85% of HD full

I have 85% of my hard drive full & computer tells me to delete items to free some space so I can upload a TV programme I've recorded to NERO.

I've got loads of pictures, screenshots etc on there. If I transfer the pictures onto a CD (I think I need a CD not DVD  ) and delete all the pictures on the computer would that then free up some of my hard drive?

I have photo's in NERO, Picasa2, HP Photosmart etc! When I put any photo's in HP P/Smart it also goes straight into Picasa2. If I delete from one does that mean it deletes from the other?

Thank you!

Needless to say I haven't a clue and would welcome some of your invaluable help! This is hard work :)!

Picasa is just a program that keeps a track on what pictures and vid files you have stored on your computer. So yes, when you delete it then Picasa will register it as being deleted (eventually)
Assuming you have a dvd WRITER then you may as well use blank dvds (I highly recommend DATAWRITE TITANIUMs)
Create folders 4.35 gig or less in size and burn them to dvd using Nero

You could install a second "slave" hard drive, if there's space in your PC case.

Shouldn't be too expensive these days.

Thanks very much. I use Verbatim DVD's & CD's and know they are okay too.

Thanks for explaining about Picasa. I now know why when I upload a recorded TV programme onto my computer via NERO why they are stored in Picasa. I'm off to delete them from there now and see what happens!

Do you USE Picassa? if not you may as well just uninstall it. If you DO then just leave it as when you delete as normal it will realise and change its display.
(By delete as normal I mean just goto wherever theyre stored and delete them)

Have you tried running Ccleaner on your PC, you might be surprised at how much junk it will get rid off your HDD.

Lara, if you can warrent or afford the expence, an external usb hard drive is very, very useful. Also the larger you can afford the better as it is amazing how quickly they fill up.

I think its time you backed that lot up and also sort for more hd space. If you arent pc savvy perhaps opt for a usb external hd, easy peasey to set up just connect to pc vis usb and connect the psu to mains

A 500gb portable usb hard drive is around £60-£70

I recommend backing up important data to dvdr and also another hd just in case
