Break the contract?

Put an ad on a site that I was looking for a room. Got an answer from a man saying that he had a room for 2 months, when I looked at the room he said that he was only intrested in renting it out for a year.
I was desperatly and signed the contract, I am now paying a fortune for a boxroom. I should be getting housing benefit but this has made me scared to find a job.
If I get a job all of my salary will go to the rent, I am also panicking paying this kind of money for a year, it really is a box room and I am paying a fortune no bills incl.

Please don't tell me I shouldn't have signed the contract, maybe I shouldn't but I had been looking for so long and since I was unemployed no one wanted to rent to me. when I signed the contract I was three days away from being on the street.
I was told by the council that i would not be counted as homeless since I didn't have a child and I wasn't sick. I had been staying in a hostel for three months but since the council hadn't decided on how much they would pay me I couldn't afford to stay on there.

Can I get out of this situation?

  • There's not much point worrying for the moment because if you leave without a job you'll be back in exactly the same situation that you were before! Use this as a stepping stone to getting a job - you might even find the room is bearable when you're not in it all day! Once you have a regular wage coming in, if you still want to leave, see whether you can find someone to take over the tenancy.

Your main concern now should be to get a job!
