Fireplace sellers?

Ok, I think I have the kitchen, bathroom, floor and most major things sorted for the house we are buying. Next on the list is the fireplace.
We have someone to install it. So all I need to do is buy one. Any recommendations for either online companies, national firms (like B&Q), or local companies? (West Scotland)

Hi if you Google 'fireplaces west scotland' you'll get a load of hits. This one - www.thefireplacegallery.co.uk - is in Glasgow and has a show room. They will have catalogues of the best manufactureres. Narrow down your search to your town or area to get results of local suppliers as well as national. I assuming you're talking about a log burner, a gas fire or an electric fire! Also don't forget your Thomson / Yellow Pages / Local Directory as well as friends and neighbours. Some local suppliers don't seem to be on the web (like the company I bought mine from).
I would also suggest actually seeing the models before you choose. The one I liked in the catalogue which seemed to fit was actually quite disappointing when I saw it in the showroom. I am very happy with the one I did see whilst there and it works a treat. From there it is simply a case of seeing how much they would charge and searchng for the exact make and model on the web to see if national suppliers can better it.

Edit to add... it would be remiss of me to not add that whoever installs it MUST be qualified to fit gas/electric/log burners. Don't do this thing using a general handiman, DIY enthusiast or similar. If wrongly installed, you could pay with your life!0 -

Thanks both of you. A relative is going to do it, he is a plumber and is CORGI registered. He has been in the business for over 30 years and did a good job at the in-laws house so we have seen his work. :j
Will definitely try and go to see one in a showroom then, just in case it looks different in real life. It's a gas one we are going for.0 -

Very competitive prices and good service. I think that they also have a website if you Google it. I believe that they deliver nationwide.0 -
We have had dealings with this firm and no complaints.

we bought a fireplace set (Gas fire, hearth and mantle) from B&Q last year.
The service from them was ok and we got there in the end!!!
The staff in store didnt know much about getting it fitted so we sorted that our selves.
There was also a notice on the display fire saying "this fire may need a chair brick". No body knew what a chair brick was, apart from it was gonna cost £80.
A quick call to a builders merchant revealed it was a Fire Back and was £45.
When the fire was delivered we noticed that the front grill was broken clean in two. B&Q pointed us in the direction of the manufacturer who couriered the part out the next day.
All in all, not a bad all round experience.
thats my 2 penneths worth!:think:0 -
ive used BQ for a few gas fires. hard to beat their prices. the staff are useless in any technical matters though.
but i prefer to use a national company, for any possible future warranty problems.
all the small companies seem to be, (even when cheaper on price), here today and gone tomorrow types.Get some gorm.0 -

We bought one of their oak surrounds recently. Looks the business and is top quality, far superior than the B&Q, Wickes stuff.0
