Does estate agent inform sellers solicitor that they've had an offer?

I've had an offer via my estate agents to buy my house. I have accepted the offer and now my estate agent needs to know the name of my solicitor. Does this mean the estate agent will get in touch with my solicitor and if so, what information will they give them? Many thanks.

They may well do, they ask for this so that they can get channels of communication open for the smooth running operation of selling the house.

They will also keep hassling the solicitor for info and push for exchange and completion so that in the end they get there money.

They certainly should, the estate agent needs to secure their commission and you need them to work for it!

  • Thank you for clarifying that for me. I wasn't too sure if I was supposed to contact my solicitor or not as this is the first time I have looked to sell. Many thanks again.

If you have not already done so YOU will also need to instruct your solicitor, as he/she is acting for you not the EA.

As an EA we issue letters confirming the sale to you, the buyer and the two solicitors acting for each of you. You and the buyer each need to confirm to your respective solicitors what is happening. Don't worry of you forget this as your solicitor will chase you when he has the EA's letters of confirmation.

We also issue a Memorandum of Sale containing all names, addresses, phone numbers etc of all relevant parties.
