Question about paying gas bill

This is probably a silly question that may have a few of you shaking your heads/rolling your eyes :rolleyes:

I've just viewed my latest bill online and I owe £30, which i'm going to pay tonight. It gives me an option to "pay a differant amount".

Would I be ok paying more than I need to, so that i'm in front for the winter months?
This space is available to rent... :D

    I'd just pay what I owed and leave the extra I wanted to pay in my account earning interest for me not them.

    If you can overestimate your reading and the price goes up, you will benefit. But overpay or under pay, the tariff will be applied the same, according to the dates of the readings.

    By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
    To dissolve the people
    And elect another?
