House insurance claim

Hiya,
About a month ago so little toe rag broke in to my house while i was sleeping and robbed the place. On the grand scale of things they didnt actually get that much as half of my house is packed up ready to move. But they did get things like my PS3, amp, all my cd's, dvd's, games, dvd player, PS2 digital camera, DS etc etc.
Now if this wasn't bad enough in itself, i still haven't had anyone from the insurance company come and take the details of what was taken and like i said this happened over a month ago, its bad enough having my things taken without the insurance company prolonging me be able to replace my things.
They gave me an initial date when they would come out to see me( to find out what was taken) then a few days before hand i got a call saying unfortunately they couldn't send anyone on that day and i was given another date (today at 10:00am) I booked time off work this morning to be at home for them coming, but i get a phone call at 9:10am saying they were unable to come out and would come next tuesday.
Now what i'd like to know is can they just keep on doing this, i mean are they allowed to let so much time pass before they even find out what was stolen never mind actually start putting my claim together, could they legally keep on pushing it back and back and back, could i still be sat here in 6 months time waiting to be given my insurance payout to replace my things?? Also can i file a personal compensation claim for lenght of time i will have been without my things by the time this all gets sorted out?
Thanks in advance

You could try checking your insurance policy. It should stipulate the time frame they have to abide by.Are you over 65 and looking for quality travel insurance for over 65s?0
