Scottish Power - Random Bill

Moved into my new house on the 25/05/05, setup with Powergen a couple of months in advance (same as my last house as still the cheapest).
Yesterday I received a bill from Scottish Power for £69 for the period starting 25/05/05 to Oct. I have never been with Scottish Power ever before yet they have my name and address details and have sent me this random bill.
Called Powergen last night and they confirmed everything is fine on my account. Tried to call Scottish Power and got nowhere. Queued for over 15 minutes than got transferred to a differenty department and the IVR said "sorry we're all busy please call back" and hung up. Gave up after calling back and spending another 10 minutes on hold. Emailed them asking for am immediate answer and their autoreponder says they take 5 working days for an email!
Appalling service from a company I don't even do business with.
Is this a common practise?
Any ideas how to fix this other than my idea of taking the bill down to their head office and shoving it )(*&&*$*^%(*&^*)&(^%(^%!

Just got home and I have another letter this time from a collections agency demanding the money or they will cut off the gas and take my to court!
On the phone to Scottish Power now after 20 minutes on hold to get through and they are being most unhelpful as all the departments they need to talk to care closed!
This is turning into an even bigger nightmare.Sense is not common.0 -
Evenutally got through to SP and they agree it was an error and would send out a letter confirming. Apparently they were waiitng for a final meter reading from Powergen for when they took over the account, but never got it so never knew they'd stopped supllying and just billed me. Apparently that was the third bill the others went to the plot number so never arrived at my house!
Still no letter from Scottish power or any other contact from anyone. Got Powergen to agree to credit my account with an additional £15 for the hassle (already had 3 months free gas and £54 credited for the previous problems). Scottish power refused any compensation on the phone for thier appalling c/s.Sense is not common.0
