When to buy Christmas laptop?

I will be buying a laptop for my son for Christmas this year, spending about £350. I just noticed the new sub£400 laptop thread, but was wondering - should I leave it til December to get the most up-to-date spec for my money, and the Christmas offers, or are there genuine one-off deals I should be looking to snap up? I am guessing I should leave it a while, but any advice is appreciated!

Leave it, computers are changing every month, and im sure they will create some sort of xmas bundle or offer.0

..and also, you could probably shave £100 off for a similar spec by buying an as-new refurb..I know I'm going to swear, but pcworld have some decent ones..got mine from there in March, as new, 12 month warranty, and quidco too !! And it's had no probs at all.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Leave as late as possible, otherwise the guarantee will start 3 months before your son starts using it.0

The rip-off season usually starts around the end of November...
although, maybe because of the recession, there'll be more competition on pricing.
As for warranties, you're going to be awfully unlucky if the thing cracks up the last 4 weeks of the warranty.
As it's a laptop for a child, I would think about an extended warranty. When laptop hardware goes bad, it can be a very costly repair.0
