No, I'd like to see lower prices / more competition for music downloads!
I've been hunting around to see if there's a more economical way to buy music from well-known artists, rather than coughing up nearly a quid a track on Amazon or iTunes (yes, I know that's still cheaper than albums ever used to be, but this is MSE, right? ;)).

So, where on earth is the competition for the above two ubiquitous sites? I don't want whole albums, I don't want a subscription, I don't want streaming... I just want to be able to download and keep individual tracks that I like without spending too much but without resorting to illegal means, where the artists get nothing whatsoever. A pick & mix (e.g. buy 10 tracks, save 10% or whatever) approach would be great, but nobody seems to offer that.

Am I missing something? Or am I just taking this whole money-saving lark too far, and should just stump up some shiny round pounds to keep these talented folk in bubbly and limousines?

Spotify does not cover my country. I had installed the mobile app but I had to delete it. I don't know why they don't support my country, I really don't understand that. I use YouTube to listen to Free online music.
  • Copyright is always important problem in industrial entertainment. Therefore, just some websites are for free. Tks for sharing.
  • Not exactly free, but I've signed up to Deezer Prime for 99p, for 3 months. No ads, and you can create your own playlists. I cancelled straight away, so I don't have to worry about having to pay when the 3 months is up.
  • Re-opened this thread. The poll's old but the discussion's good :)

  • Just two pence worth.

I've used quite a few music streaming sites for quite a while.

I used to be a heavy Spotify user but last year they updated their web client (play.spotify.com) to a new version (open.spotify.com). Unfortunately the new client is severely broken. For example it will not list all the artists in your library and those that it does are displayed in a random order.

I've tried Deezer but the Flow feature does not play enought recommendations for new music.

Last FM is pretty good but still trying to get used to using it.

    Rgds.,

  • Bandcamp let's you stream full songs for (all?) their artists' music. Plus if you do decide to buy from them they are well known for paying their artists a healthy share.
