  • Well obviously it's up to you. It's your stuff I suppose.

Personally, I didn't see the point in stripping the house when we left because:
    1. I had no-where to store doors, radiators, kitchen units etc.... because I didn't need them for the new house we were moving into
    2. It seemed a bit....... petty. Sorry, but you did ask :o

I can understand taking things like curtains and expensive light fittings, if you can use them in your new home? And the shed too I suppose. The rest just seems a little bit mad....... will you be able to use them in your new house? Or do you plan to sell them / give them away?
You can't control everything in life....... your hair was put on your head to remind you of that :p

  • We took light fittings purely because the new house had none lol! We also took the toilet seats :o to replace the revolting ones already in lol, curtains/some blinds, one shed for all hubbys work tools (left two)....

I think that was it apart from the obvious furniture lol. ;)

It's entirely up to you what you take, although the 'worse' condition the house is left in the less they will sell it for. Will the shortfall still be taken under your bankruptcy?

I have read previous posts about people taking items when they leave their house and this is the list of what I am going to take when I leave.

Combi Boiler and radiators (capping all pipes)

Originally the boiler & fire was a joke between my wife and I but know I feel that I really should take them, What does everyone else think?

Im taking my boiler and pumps - spent 2k installing it just 1 year ago and being an external HE boiler, i can sell it on for a few pounds. Im also taking my power shower and bathroom sink/vanily unit.

carpets and underlay, chrome electrical fittings - ditto.

im lucky that i have a lock up barn for storing my landscaping stuff so storage wont be a problem.

The house is in negative equity so any shortfall after repo will be included in the BR. Im not going to go round smashing all of the interior walls but I am considering taking anything that I can sell or give away.

Well I should hope you aren't going to be smashing in the walls lol, but seriously, in that case I would take whatever you can.

As you say you can either use it, a friend/family member can use it or you can sell it. If you feel comfortable in doing so, do so.

We didn't take any more because we didn't think there was anything else worth taking :o our carpets/flooring had been down years and ruined anyway. The fireplace was broken (old age lol) and the kitchen cubaord seemed like too much hassle and we had no where to put it anyway lol.

  • I certainly wouldn't take a lot of those things. By removing things, that it will be obvious were there before, you could be seen as devaluing the property to the detriment of your creditors.

Also, if you have already been declared bankrupt, those items now 'belong' to the OR's office, or the mortgage provider - in other words, they are not yours to take.

Gas Fire & Surround (cap off gas pipe) usually left when you move out
All Carpets & Underlay occassionally taken by sellers of houses
All Light Fittings & Switches (replace with cheap plastic ones) As long as they are replaced
Curtains / Blinds / Poles Quite normal - if they are going to fit elsewhere
Complete fitted Kitchen (including sink) I couldn't believe this one
Combi Boiler and radiators (capping all pipes) Unheard of in any normal situation
Interior doors I couldn't believe this one either
    Decking rare to be removed
Shed often taken when people move
