Can this be used away from PC or not?

Hi, I'd be really grateful for some advice. I was thinking of buying the Trust Slimline Design Tablet Tb-5300 on the basis of the description seen here:

http://www.one4uni.com/product-info/55716-Trust-Slimline-Design-Tablet-Tb---5300

which states that it "Stores over 2000 pages and is easily connected to your laptop of PC to downlaod your documents."

However, when I checked PC World site for a price comparison I found exactly the same model number here:

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0964789769.1220968800@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccdgadefdhmgjeecflgceggdhhmdgmh.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=921899&category_oid=

but this doesn't mention it can be used away from the computer or that it has any storage capability. Indeed it says that is does not require batteries although the one on the one4uni site says it comes with batteries!

It is crucial to me how this functions as I want to be able to take it to lectures and make notes then download to my PC later. If anyone can help before I'm finally convinced I'm going mad I'd be grateful!

  • To me and looking at this site

This is just a bog standard graphics tablet (I have a trust one I got from ASDA) all it does is take input via USB and is good for graphic apps such as photoshop or handwriting recognision (spelling!!) software. The reason it comes with a battery is because the pen needs it.

As shadowdragon said, you don't want a graphics tablet which is merely an input device to a PC. You want a digital/scanning pen or digital note taker. E.g. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0014FC3J6/ref=nosim/accessleedsco350c-21 (Some require special paper, some don't)

Thanks Superscaper and Shadowdragon... it's what I thought but, if that is the case, the one4uni site is very misleading! I had looked at the digital/scanning pens and digital note takers (e.g. the digiscribble on Amazon) but to be honest they get very mixed reviews and I am keen not to waste money on something that won't meet my needs. I have just found out that the Trust tb-5300 is on sale at PC World so have reserved one at my local store... I'm going there in a bit to look at it and see what it says on the box!

I'd really like a tablet that can store writing to be uploaded to PC later, rather than a digital pen as, from the reviews I've found so far, you cannot correct your writing using them until you upload. Anyway... it will be interesting to see what it is like in real life!

    Thanks again
