Are you feeling better now SmlSave?
We went to the Dominican about 6 years ago and my only regret is not choosing the highest star hotel possible. Think we were in a 3* and although we had a brill time and would definitley go back it would be 5* next time.
Beautiful country and wonderful people.
We visited the north coast but the south is more 'caribbean'

Hi Smlsave,
We went to the dominican a couple of years ago and had a very relaxing break. Make sure you go all inclusive as the areas outside the resorts (when we were there) did not really cater for tourists. Another thing I would say is it was really a beach water sports holkiday place. We only found a few day trip things to do so if you don't like lying on a beach/water sports there is not loads to do.
We had a great time though and the hotel, food and beach were all amazing.Mortgage @ 01.06.10 £165,999Mortgage @ 31.10.13 £14,6640 -
We went to the Dom Rep in 2005 and cause we loved it so much again in 2006
We stayed on the east coast near Punta Cana , about 30 mins transfer from the airport and the hotel was 4 star all inclusive
I loved the food, the drink and the weather. My screen shot at work is off the hotel beach. The sea was a bit choppy so snorkelling off the beach wasn't to goodMortgage Aug 12 £165K, Aug 19 £0

Thank you for your replies regarding the Dominican
I'm glad to hear so many people have enjoyed it! Makes me feel all the much better about going. I will definitely research some good 4/5* resorts. DH wants to spend one week on the south and one week on the north so we get to experience both sides.
It will be our first beach holiday for almost 2 years as DH isn't really fussed about sun or sand and doesn't like the idea of snorkeling or scuba diving as he doesn't like fish! lol. the things I make him doIf you ever need help with caravan parks in Devon I'm your gal:rotfl:
I was at a Haven park a couple of weekends ago in Somerset which was niceI'm lucky that my parents always get a cottage when they go to the Lakes/Devon/Cornwall etc so me and DH can pop in for a weekend and walk to every pub/cream tea within 2hrs
I've been buying lunch as I've still got no energy. Got another weeks worth of antibiotics to get through and fingers crossed I'll be back to normal. I'm still coughing lots and am going to have a go at swimming and sauna tonight to see if it will 'loosen' my chest.
Am embarrsed to say that I've let a whole bag of apples go mouldy as I couldn't get motivated enough to 'process' themCurrently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

Hey glad you've got your holiday sussed SmlSave... Sounds amazing. I did get to Barbados about 20 years ago and that was pretty cool, although there is a massive gap between the rich and the poor.....MFW 2011 No. 161 £946.54/£2000 TargetApril 9/15

We went to Puerto Plata in 2002. (North i think?) Amazing place. I think our hotel was 4*. Amazing food, great but expensive day trips, and very hot. There were 2 guys around the pool every day organising games of volleyball, beach aerobics etc etc. Though we mostly opted for reclining in the shade with a book or sitting at the bar in the middle of the pool. There were a lot of children who were 'begging'.
I would love to go back one day as we went the summer i finished teacher training. I finished on the Friday and we went on the Monday. I remember wishing we had more money for the amazing trips you could do like fly in a small aeroplane and see more of the island. The monster jeeps ride out into the hills was great, as was the catamaran and swimming/snorkeling.
The rum was so cheap and tasty. We also did the tour of the rum factory and amber production, but that was a bit of a rip off as they took you to shops where they were after you buying expensive jewellery.0 -
Thanks for the advice Michelle
I shall have a look at Puerto Plata.
My Reg Saver maturedOnly £1000 but everything helps. I've paid £700 towards the debt/op fund, £100 to finally pay off my glasses that I got in April. The £300 left is supposed to be my Xmas fund but I'm very tempted to use it to clear most the cc (£546.23
)
It was nice to go swimming last night and do something normal but it was hard work and showed that I've pulled my chest muscles so I'm definitely falling apart. Met a lady today who sounds like she has the same thing as me and has had it for 5 weeks!!! I will go to the docs again if I'm not feeling better Monday.Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck
