Query about my IB claim

I have been claiming since May 08 and recently I was asked to fill in an IB50 and get a Med4 from my doctor. This was done on Friday past and posted off. This morning I received a letter saying the following:
People with certain didabilities or severe illnesses are treated as meeting the threshold of incapacity and do not have to undergo the assessment.

Because you have one of these disabilities or illnesses, you can be treated as meeting the threshold of incapacity

But later in the letter it says
if we contact you again you may be asked to fill in a questionnaire or be called for a medical examination

Excuse my idiocy but what does this all mean?

  • I got one of those letters too - but I hadn't even filled in the IB50!

What it means is you can breathe a sigh of relief, no medical or more questions for you, your IB will carry on as before. But at some point - not for at least a year I should think - you may have to fill in another IB50 to prove you are sick. But then again, I was sent an IB50 at the end of August, and on 4th September (before I had time to fill it in even) I received a letter like yours.

But congratulations, have a cup of tea to celebrate, your ordeal is over for now :p
KEEP CALM AND keep taking the tablets :cool2:

It means that at the moment you are exempt from the medical assessment and have therefore passed without having to attend one.

The second part means that you can be reviewed in the future.
  • My husband's last letter in 2006 said that. He didn't have to have a medical .

Two years later he has just completed another IB50 questionnaire and we are awaiting the outcome.

Well that is a weight off my mind. It was just the second quote which confused me. Have to deal with a change of treatment next month too - going on Lithium which means regular blood and kidney tests apparently. But if at all means a better outcome I'll be happy.
  • My Son Went For His Assessment In May 08.he Has A Knee Problem And Been On Ib For Over A Year And Had His Operation In Aug.the Assessment Was A Total Waste Of Time Because All They Wanted Was To Find Out If He Could Do Every Day Things Like Make A Cuppa Tea,washing Up Ect.he Suppose To Get 15points Or More But Only Got 10 So They Withdrew His Ib.the Poor Sod Could,TEven Walk More Than 200yrs Before He At To Sit Down Due The Pain.the Doctor Who Assessed Him Could't Talk Very Good English, she Never Heard Of His Problem But Still Went Against My Sons Specialist Who Told Them He Was Unfit For Work Untill He Had His Operation.iN My Opinion Anyone Who Goes For These Assessment Tell The Doctor About The Very Bad Days You Have And The Good Days Are Not Far Behide The Bad Days.i Know They Suppose To Save Money But This Is Keeping People Who Is Really Ill Getting The Right Payments
