camcorder battery

need to upgrade camcorder battery. sony dcr-hc51e.sony battery expensive,have seen cheaper compatiable ones but they have a wire which plugs in main power supply on camcorder,not being tecnically minded can you still charge new battery ,as the mains power supply would be plugged into camcorder.

If it is a 100% compatible it should be a direct replacement for the one you already have, could you post a link to the one you've already seen, perhaps someone can give you a definate answer then.

Ah, Right, I found this on an eBay sale :-
Due to what some would say is Sony's anti-competitive stance on 3rd party H series batteries this battery can only be legally produced by the use of a small cable which connects the battery to the power socket of the camcorder, powering the camcorder via the AC socket rather than the battery terminals. The battery can be charged using the Sony (or 3rd party version) AC-L25A power supply or any NP-FP/FH battery charger; it cannot be charged from the Sony docking station.

From what I see the cable fits between the battery and the camcorder power socket, and will charge through a seperate AC-L25A charger, unless you already have this charger,
