HELP - freehold problem

We are selling our current property and have had a letter through this morning from our solicitors saying our house is leasehold, we had no idea about this so i hunted for information from when we bought the house a couple of years ago, it says that the property was leasehold though the freehold is bought but unregistered. I have told the solicitor about this and she has said to send any details but we don't have any. Is this going to cause any problems with our sale? What actually does it mean?
Land registry believes the property to be leasehold which 999yrs from 1898 - what does this mean?
