Mercers & Barclycard stole my money!!!!! please help!!!!

In 2007 I had a Barclay’s card which I was not able to pay; I could not meet the monthly payments and fell behind. I didn’t pay anything for 6 months and account was taken over by Mercers which I believe is the in-house debt collection.



In October 07 I came in to some money and sent them a letter asking for a full and final settlement figure that they would except.i even got the letter template off this website. The original amount was £1,700 and I offered to pay £1,200 in the next seven days as its part of the deal.



So on the 26/10/07 I went in to Barclays in Islington London and paid the full amount in cash to the account number provided by Mercers.

Over and done with! I thought I was free from Debt finally!!!

Oh no, I was not. 2 weeks ago I received a letter from a company called Lowell financial asking for the £1,700 from my Barclaycard.



The letter also stated that the debt was now legally owned by them, and I had to pay up.

I called and explained I have paid the debt nearly a year ago, but they still said they wanted payment.



Some one please help???? I don’t know what to do, where has my money gone?????

Agreed, if you have a receipt for the £1200 they cannot ask for you to pay this again.

If you do not have a receipt I would contact the bank in Islington to ask them to check their records.

Whatsmore if you have in writing that the amount of £1200 had been agreed as a "Full and Final" settlement for the total debt of £1700 then they have no case for the additional £500 either.

Be aware that Lowell are sharks and will lie and cheat to get you to pay. So stick by your legal rights. They may threaten to visit you and take away your possessions but they have no rights to do so. They should provide evidence that you owe them the money by supplying the orginal CCA (Consumer Credit Agreement) and an up to date Statement of Account.

Thanks, i do have the recipt from the bank, but its just one of those ticket stubs that you get.

I have tried calling barclays and they say they no details of my account.

so my next course of action will be calling the branch.
