Is there anyone here with a 1 bed flat & storage heaters?

I'm asking because my brother moved into an all electric flat 4 months ago. He's just had his first bill (Eon standard) and I've tried to do a comparison for him but as he has not used the storage heater yet (there is only one in the living room) its hard for me to work out what the winter bills would be like. So does anyone know how much his electric bill is likely to increase by when the storage heater is on.

It's easy to work out ....
Rating of heaters in KiloWatts x Number of Heaters x Time On (Look at the meter to see when they switch over at night.
This will give you the KWh figure - or unit - which you can then multiply by your unit cost (on bill).
This will be MAx figure assuming that all the heat is taken form the heaters during the on peak time so that they are on constantly (re-heating) for the off peak time.
You MAY see this max figure come down depending on use as above.0 -
I used to live in a 1 bed flat with storage heaters. I used to pay £29.00 per month for electricity - and i always had the heaters on in the winter.0

Does your brother have two rates of electricity?
The storage heaters work by heating up inside during off peak times (at night usually) and giving out heat at other times times (evening/morning). The best thing to do is to just put the input of the storage heaters to an appropriate level then put the output on when you want heat.
Obviously its best to heat them up during the cheap rates. This means that the comparison below should be "time when heaters are heating up", which is not the same as when t hey're actually heating the room.
So, if there are two rates, and the heater can be heated up off-peak times:
Number of hours heater is heating up * Heater Rating * Price per off-peak kWh hour0 -
Ive a 1 bed ground floor flat - old building converted about 10 years ago, old manweb region and pay £31 a month to ebico (economy7 00:30 to 07.30GMT).
Ive got 2 storage heaters, 1 panel heater and electric heated water tank, washing machine only used at night, take readings off meter most monday's and add to a spreadsheet.
During summer i use approx 20 day units(£2.91) and 25 night units(£1.17) a week
Winter averages 20 day units(£2.91) and 120 night units(£5.63) - last year lowest was 52 night units (old prices - £2.05) and highest was 176 night units (old prices - £6.95)0 -
Thanks dave461. I was considering going for night storage heaters. At the moment I am using wall mounted convection heaters, 3kw in the front room, 2kw in other rooms. With these on i'm using about 40 units a day with the heating on and 10 units a day without.0
