Desperately seeking....cheaper electric!

I live alone in a well-insulated average-sized one bedroom new-build flat. It is electric only. I rarely have the heating on. I don't have TV on hardly ever. I am with Scottish Power, and they want to charge me £69.50 a month. This seems a bit steep? No?

Any suggestions which company might be cheaper? NPower? British Gas?

Thanks

What are they basing the charge on? Actual readings or estimated use?

You need to find out the price per kilowatt they are charging, then look at other suppliers prices

If you use a comparison site be sure to put your real useage in, not let them choose some "average" person / situation

You could look at Ebico as you are not a hevy user and they bill as you use it, so you use it, then pay the bill either monthly or quarterly [your choice]

Tell them that you won't be paying that much. Don't pay by DD-just pay quarterly on the amount you use.

When I moved into my house, Scottish Power said they wanted to charge me £100 a month for gas/electric combined. My response was that I would only use £350 a year so I didn't pay anything by DD, and only paid for what I used. Since switched from Scottish Power as I found their customer service abysmal.
I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

for starters make sure you know how much you are using. take daily or weekly readings and work out whether you are using what you think you should be using. for 1 person in a small flat, i would say you should use a few thousand kWh per year or less than £20 per month.
