Struggling to move balance to 0% CC

in Credit cards
Hubby moved his 2500 balance from Lloyds CC to Tesco abt 9months ago and the 0% is about to run out. He has just applied for and been declined Virgin 0%.
The only thing we can see that might be affecting credit file are searches by next & littlewoods in June. Also he applied for and was declined for a loan w/ halifax in July, then was accepted w/ tesco. This was moving the balance of a previous loan to a much cheaper apr.
So I suppose thats now 5 searches in 3 months.
I guess it would be a good idea not to apply for anything for a while now?
How long does it take for these searches to no longer affect new applications?
Would Lloyds be likely to give him a CC as until 9 months ago he held one with them? His current acc is also with Lloyds. The only balance transfer they have is their platinum card.
Any other ideas? The tesco CC is 16.9% with about a £2300 balance.

Searches tend to trickle off after six months.
Why not implement the contingency plan you had for just such a situation? How much have you saved up over the nine months? Why not use that and the interest to pay off the £2300?0 -
Haha.. there isnt one. We are struggling with a baby and me out of work atm. Also had huge debts in my name until I went BR a couple of months ago. We are now in the situation that we can pay 200ish a month off it, but it will clear a lot faster if 70 of that isnt interest.0
