If you know your size and so forth it is also well worth looking on eBay! I have had two or three beautiful pairs of all leather loafer type school shoes for my son from there at very reasonable prices, one pair of Frank Wright for about £10, the Ted Baker were around £20 and the last pair were not "designer label" but were excellent all leather shoes which appear to be lasting well. All brand new and boxed and so forth.

    Good luck!

Ecco's Formal shoes are my recommendation. I am on my feet for hours at work and they are extremely comfortable and hard wearing. A pair of these shoes will last for years if looked after. I baulked the first time I bought a pair (typically £80 to £100) but your feet and your wallet will thank you. A pair of these shoes will see you through longer than 2-3 pairs of cheaper shoes. Ecco can be bought at Jones the bootmaker & Charles Clinkard. Ecco have a good website so you can see the styles (and some reviews) before you hit the shops. http://www.ecco.com/gb/en/collection/men/business/index.jsp

    Thanks folks!

I'm a bit reluctant to buy online without trying on first... I'm happy to pay the extra in a shop so I can try a few on to get the perfect fit
  • really cheap shoes are a false economy- dont expect saville row (whats the shoe equivalent?) for £10..

you may get lucky, but best get something that fits properly, shines up well (always noted in meetings!), and feels just as good after a few years wear..

stuck on (bubbled) soles are v tricky to repair
