Clear Credit Card Balance?????

Hello everyone

I have heard through the grapevine that there might be a way to clear credit card balances where the card was issued before April 2007.

I just wondered if anybody knew anything about it? And if they did how true it was? How it affects your credit file? etc

I look forward to your advice!

Mandy

I think that if you pay off the bill in full it might do it? Don't quote me on that as it seems its a barmy idea to some!
  • I was hoping to make a statement to make people notice my thread??????? See the effect!!!!!!
  • I think chucking credit at newly turned 18 year olds is wrong! And that is what happened to me and I am still suffering 8 years later!! I have a young family and can't even make it through a month without money running out. I would be a lot better off if I didn't have ancient credit card balances to pay that i can't afford!

Have you tried forming a budget? It would definitely give you a good vision for how to clear the debt effectively and in a realistic time frame.
  • I have tried everything!! Believe it or not but I work with other peoples money everyday! I am really good with my finances now. Its just the old debts that keep creeping up and I just want to get rid of them. I don't use the cards anymore at all!! But paying min payment is getting me nowhere and I have nothing spare to up it!

They may have chucked the money but you weren't forced to take it.
  • You didn't know my situation then. I would prefer not to get comments like that thankyou. There is a slight judgemental tone to your voice and frankly your comments, although stating the obvious, aren't helpful.

    Hi Mandy,

If I may I would suggest that you post on the DFW (Debt Free Wannabee) forum. The people there are very experienced at beating debts and will be able to offer good advice.

Also, the recent reports on these companies suggests that they charge extortionate amounts to challenge agreements that you have a right to do yourself without an imtermediary.

You may want to contact the CAB (Citizens Advice Bureau) who offer a free service, will negotiate with your creditors on your behalf and have access to professional legal advice if required.

    Good Luck
