Dreaded Blue Screen (Argh)

Am trying to fix a fiends PC. He had to get a new PCI modem (other one blew), so I installed it. all ok. Once you go to use it / view properties etc you get the dreaded blue screen. Once this happens the PC will boot but will, after a few seconds, display the blue screen, dump the memory, and re-boot.
Obviously if I remove the PCI modem all is ok so, the question is what's causing the problem? Could it be a BIOS or IPQ issue? Although I consider myself quite PC savy upgrading the BIOS is something I always try to avoid, and if it is an IPQ conflict I'm not sure what I should change it to.
To any suggestions???
Thanks cloud_dog
<<<should be 'friends' Pc at the begining but fiend seems quite apt so I'll leave it :-)

You mean IRQ conflicts? It could very well be... sounds like the type of behaviour you would get when using windows. To be honest, i've only ever had to fix a hardware interrupt conflict with freebsd, and i wouldn't have a clue how you go about resolving one on a windows system - however it must be in there somewhere! Does windows even have the equivalent of dmesg? I don't see how you could easily resolve it without seeing what the kernel is doing (when booting?)
If there are any additional pci slots free, you can try putting the card in the very very last slot, reboot and keep your fingers crossed!0 -
Make sure you've installed the latest drivers for it - check on the manufacturer's website for the latest downloads.
Go into Device Manager (right click My Computer - Properties - Hardware tab - Device Manager) and have a play around under Modems, e.g. Scan for hardware changes, update drivers etc.
Also in Device Manager, look for IRQ conflicts (View menu - Resources by type - Interrupt request). My PCI modem has its own IRQ (22).
Another thought: try reseating the card in the PCI slot.0 -
