EDF billing system is not fair (estimate) !
Options
Hi,
I have received my annual electricity bill from EDF around £850 for 14 months. Fair enough !
By reading the details of the bill, I have discovered that EDF has estimated that my consumption in 13 months has been 4295 units when the unit cost as 9.86p. I guess they came to read the meter (they did it twice last year but did not appear in the bill) at the end of July. And during the last month we would have had consumed 3117 units when the price has increased to 11.53p.
Can they really charge me the difference between the estimate and the actual to the current fare which is 17% more expensive ? I did consume the energy when the price was down not over the last month.
Could you tell me if I have a recourse to that situation
Many thanks

"The computer says no!" All of the big companies are slaves to their computer systems. This unfair bill is probably a result of EDF not picking up the meter reading companies data. Phone EDF and tell them what the problem is.
Hopefully they will (or you suggest) suggest you take a meter reading yourself and then one a week later. This will give you an average reading per day and you can ask them to back bill you at the old rates on a pro-rata basis. As long as you are pleasant about it the should respond positively. This is a common method we use for business electricity and business gas customers
Top Tip: take your own meter readings and give them to the suppliers regularly. Would you let a credit card company give you an estimated bill?0 -
All the computers have an algorithm that should work out charges based on the weather etc. However like all computers programs it needs accurate data and this it clearly has not been available.
It is even possible that there has been some intervention by a human!!
A call to the company should sort it out.
It would help when calling if you had just happened to note the reading at the the end of July when the price rise was implemented. - You DID note the reading DIDN'T YOU? of course you did!0
